Cheese Dog Treat Recipe

Cheese, please.

If you want to bake your dog a cheese dog treat, keep in mind that dairy products can lead to upset stomachs in pets. That’s because pets are essentially lactose-intolerant. They do not have the enzyme called lactase which breaks down the natural sugar in dairy products known as lactose.

The good news is that cheese has less lactose than milk so it’s less likely to cause problems for your dog.

Milk is one of the ingredients not recommended in healthy dog treat recipes for use when cooking for dogs.

Cottage cheese and yogurt are dairy products. But they are touted as beneficial and ok for dogs and have low amounts of lactase. In fact, more and more yogurt products are being produced because it is an all-natural ingredient.

When giving cottage cheese and yogurt to your pets, use plain products. Pets do not need the added sugar or other contents that humans require for taste and palatability.

Cheese can also be high in fat. Therefore, if you use small amounts of low-fat cheese, like parmesan, or low-fat mozzarella, and if your dog does not have problems eating it, it should be fine.

This is a quick and easy recipe for those who enjoy baking for dogs.
